The Golden Retriever Club of Alberta was formed in 1984 by a small group of people who shared a common interest in the purebred dog known as the Golden Retriever.

Our mission:

"To provide an opportunity for persons interested in the Golden Retriever to meet and participate in educational, informative, competitive and fun activities organized by the members, for the members, while contributing to the betterment and promotion of the breed."
With approximately 100 members throughout Alberta and neighboring provinces, the members of the Club are active in a wide variety of pursuits. This includes working certificate training seminars and tests, obedience seminars and trials, specialty shows and boosters, agility, flyball, scent hurdling and canine health clinics. Additionally, the Club participates in community events such as walk-a-dog-thons, visits to the infirm, Superdogs and Prairie Dogs.

The Club publishes a newsletter called "Golden Recalls", which features articles covering a broad range of topics including show and trial results, upcoming events, animal health issues, book reviews and general interest stories about Club activities and events. The GRCA is a member of the Golden Retriever Club of Canada and the Canadian Kennel Club, and upholds the ethics of both.

The Club holds meetings in Edmonton and Calgary and Red Deer, which, in addition to the Club's business component, feature education segments with guest speakers or presentations by members. Topics covered recently include Canine Acupuncture, Chiropractic Treatment and Dogs, Canine Dental Care and Field Training. Visitors have included an Edmonton City Police Service Dog and a Golden Retriever that aids the visually impaired.

The Club retains a list of breeder-members that is available, along with our educational information available on our website, to assist those interested in obtaining a Golden Retriever puppy. As well, we operate a breed rescue / rehousing program and accept applications from individuals who may prefer to adopt a mature dog. In addition to all of this, we also have a web site with information readily available to anyone who is interested in the Golden Retriever and the GRCA.
